Thrifting and stuff...

Hello!  I hope you have had a great week that was full of inspiration, love and craftiness!  I have had a busy week finding & finishing ....:)

I always love having a poke around at my local op shops.  It always excites me the unknown treasures I might find inside.  I found this gorgeous pineapple jelly mould at a local Lifeline store for 50c.  It is in fantastic condition and I think this beauty will look lovely hanging in my kitchen.

I am a little obsessed with the new pendant light shade my parents have hung in their living room.  It feels decadent and a little 'Gatsby-esque'.   Feel like I should be holding a martini!

Hanging out with my nephew, I look in the back of my car and noticed another passenger had hitched a ride with us!  He never said a peep but was pretty cute!

I bought a set of three photo frames that were attached together with hinges from my local Salvos store for $2.  I ended up separating them and painting them with some of the left over paint from my antlers.  Above is the end product of one which I put in a postcard I found that was given away with an issue of Frankie Magazine a couple of months ago.  I am pretty stoked with the end product, it looks extra cute with the recipe easel I have used to prop it up with :)

Ta Dahhhh!!   May I present my antlers!  I am really happy with the way they ended up.  I know in my last post I was still looking for the perfect rope to complete and bind the two antlers together.  I found some Jute Twine from my local hardware store and I think it adds a little bit of rustic to them.  Yay!  I really loved the whole process of making these babies and love the end product!  I already have had a request from my nephew to mount a bear head for him....ummm ok?!?

Have a fantastic week!

Craft...books...inspiration..and more craft!

This week I have been..

Paper mache-ing (I think I just made that word up!) my antlers which resulted in the last layer in being paper towel.  I used paper towel because it soaks up paint a lot easier.

Prepping for painting and mounting my antlers.  Ive been teased about how they look like chicken's feet..what do you think?

Hanging out with my craft buddy, she's the silent type and very supportive!

Doing some reading..unfortunately my local newsagents seems to be 3 months behind in the craftseller magazine!  Devouring The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, classed as a Young Adult read but definitely worthy of anyone who enjoys a smart, funny, and very real story.  The Fault in Our Stars reminds me of My Sister's Keeper & The Pact both by Jodi Picoult, only because I find the characters likeable and they are going through very-real situations, that I don't come across much in the other fiction that I read.  It has been made into a film and will be released later this year.

I plan to finish my antlers during the week and will post final pictures as soon as its done.
I hope you've had the most enjoyable week...and have great plans & ideas for the one to come!

Antlers for me..

There is nothing like having a free day.  A day that is yours.  No hassles, no work, no interruptions.  Today was that day for me!   I've been flicking through a book called Craftydermy by Tracey Benton lately and have been gaining some inspiration from the beautiful works displayed throughout its pages.  Today I attempted to make my own mounted antlers!
The process was quite easy to follow, although Tracey does mentioned making the initial antler shape with newspaper, I found aluminium foil way more easier to manipulate.  Once I was happy with the shape of my antlers I wrapped them with masking tape to secure the offshoots.  After the masking tape I was ready to start the paper mache!

The Im currently waiting for my second layer of paper mache to dry and intend to do four.  I am hanging out for my RDO on friday to be able to finish it!

Have a great start to your week!
